What Skólarómur keeps about you, why, and for how long.

When you log in

You log in with Rafræn skilríki through Auðkenni. We receive your kennitala and name. The kennitala shows you are 18 or over and makes sure each person writes only one review per school.

Your name and kennitala are never shown on the site. A review shows only “Current Parent” or “Former Parent”.

How we keep them, and for how long

Your kennitala and name are encrypted and stored apart from reviews. Every access to them is logged.

We keep them while any of your reviews, questions or answers is published or waiting for a moderator, and for 2 years after the last one comes down. Then they are erased.

Who can learn who wrote a review

No one, unless a court orders it or the police lawfully demand it. A school staff member who asks who wrote a review is refused. Each such request is weighed and written down, and the staff member is told which review concerns them.

AI pre-screen

Before a moderator reads a post, its text goes through an AI that flags possible breaks of the rules. It receives only the text and the rules, never who wrote it. The provider processes the text on our behalf and does not keep it.

Location

If you allow location, your browser works out the distance to schools. Your location is never sent to us and never stored.

School accounts

A staff member verifying a school account logs in with Rafræn skilríki, and we send a code to the school’s official email address. That address is never shown on the site.

Cookies

We use only the cookies the site needs: one that keeps you logged in, one that lasts while a login is under way, and one that remembers your language. No advertising or tracking cookies.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time. All your reviews, questions and answers then come down. Published replies and answers you wrote for a school stay up, since they are the school’s. Your kennitala and name are kept for 2 years after that, then erased.

Your rights

You have the right to know what we keep about you and to have it corrected or erased, within the limits the law sets. You can complain to the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, personuvernd.is.
